What do you do in your role at The Salvation Army?
I coordinate a housing program for people experiencing a wide range of issues like homelessness, severe mental health issues, addiction, violence in the home or exiting the justice system.
How do you support people experiencing homelessness?
I help them access – and sustain – safe and affordable accommodation as well as support them to access rehab programs, legal assistance or volunteer and training opportunities. We have a very relational model and I work with people through the ups and downs of their recovery.
Why do you do what you do for work?
I chose to work in this industry to make a difference in people’s lives. While working with people struggling with complex and serious mental health or addiction issues can be challenging – I can’t imagine how much harder it must be for them to do it alone.
